These are some Frequently Asked
Questions:
Q. How long does vinegar
last? A. It is believed that when stored
properly, vinegars could last indefinitely. However, Pompeian
suggests 2 years and offers a "Best By" date which is stamped
on the top of the bottle cap. The acid nature of vinegar is
self-preserving and does not need refrigeration.
Q. What is mother of vinegar? A.
It is an opaque cellulose (a natural carbohydrate) which is
naturally produced by the harmless vinegar bacteria. Pompeian
pasteurizes its vinegar before bottling to prevent mother from
appearing while sitting on grocery store shelves. However, it
may appear in vinegar that has been opened for an extended
period of time.
Q. Do Pompeian vinegars contain
any alcohol? A. It is possible for wine vinegars
to contain a trace of alcohol, but based on FDA guidelines our
vinegars are considered alcohol free.
Q. As
with other vinegars, can balsamic vinegar be used for
pickling? A. Balsamic vinegars are not recommended
for pickling or herb infusion purposes.
Q. What
vinegars, if any, contain sulfites? A: Generally,
true grape wine vinegars, including balsamic vinegar, contain
sulfites. If you are allergic to sulfites, try Pompeian Rice
Vinegar.
Q. Are Pompeian Vinegars, including
rice, gluten free? A. Yes.
